November 20, 2007 - Day of Remembrance Ceremony

Tuesday, November 20th, PGS, the UW Q Center and Ingersoll Gender Center will hold a united candlelight vigil outside of Johnson Hall on the University of Washington main campus to mark the National Day of Remembrance for transgendered people who died by violence. We will gather at 7 PM to make sure that those our community has lost do not go ignored, to mourn them and to swear we’ll each do what we can to make sure that next year’s list is shorter however we can.

Prior to the vigil, the Q Center is hosting a performance by the group Homotopia (http://www.homotopiafilm.net/home.html) from 5-7 PM in Johnson Hall which anyone is welcome to attend. This event is an important moment for our community to make sure that the world sees us and acknowledges their treatment of us. Please join us and hold up your candle against the night.

You can find a map to Johnson Hall here.

August 12, 2007 - A Seminar for Transgendered Voices

Pacific Gender Support Group (PGS) is adding a new element to its regular support meetings for the Transgendered Community in Seattle: a series of Sunday Seminar presentations.  We proudly present our first session on Sunday, August 12, 2007 , at the Group Health Capitol Hill Campus from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM , featuring Michelle Mordaunt, a nationally recognized Speech-Language Pathologist.

This seminar is a ‘must see’ for those, particularly the Male-to-Female (MtF) transgendered, who want quick, easy tips to begin feminizing the natural voice.  At the conclusion of the presentation, Michelle will discuss the possibility of forming groups for further intensive study and practice for those who want to further refine their feminine speaking abilities.  Compared to the cost of voice surgery, voice therapy is a more economical and a safer road to travel.

Michelle Mordaunt has been aiding the transgendered community professionally for the last two decades. Michelle received her undergraduate degree at the University of Washington and her Masters in Speech Language Pathology at Purdue University.  She worked as the Voice Clinical Supervisor and Lecturer at the University of Washington for nine years and has been in professional practice since 1991.  Michelle started the transgendered program at the University of Washington and has been a close friend of our community for many years, and has previously been a featured presenter at Ingersoll and Esprit.

Ms. Mordaunt has recently co-authored and published a book, Voice and Communication Therapy for The Transgendered/Transsexual Client, subtitled, “A Comprehensive Clinical Guide by Richard Kenneth Adler, Sandy Hirsch and Michelle Mordaunt”.  The book sells for $89.95 and is an excellent guide for the transgendered person wishing to train her voice to sound more naturally feminine.

The Group Health facility is located on Capitol Hill at John Street between 15th and 16th Avenues East.  The main entrance is 201 16th Avenue East , Seattle . The seminar will be held in the classroom auditorium.  The cost is $10 per person.
